June 2008 Archives
I wish I'd gone to Glastonbury this year.
(mind you I'm saying this after 2 pints of Amstel, 500ml of Asahi Super Dry and Margaritas consisting of 7 shots of tequila and 4 shots of cointreau. (found a good mix of ingredients for Margaritas: 7:4:3 for T:C:lemon/lime juice)
so I might not be best placed to say what I should or should not be doing, or what I should or should not be feeling.
I just don't seem to be able to *feel* or *be* without being wankered these days....not good.
today I found out my very lovely and brave 32 year old, non smoking colleague died of lung cancer.
I'm sorry I said I was ok when I wasn't. I need to feel something in my heart again, please help.
went to cornwall, camped, 1 day of sun, 5 days of rain.
No evidence I was ever away apart from being AWL from work.
Some photos will be on Flickr later.
I mean, I'm really happy for friends and colleagues when they announce they're going to be parents, but I just don't know how many more times I can smile and say congratulations and mean it.
Some things just aren't fair.
Lost count of the amount of times a blog entry has been called that. Anyway, it truly is a Yay! moment as I've found the fabulous video to Do or Die by the Superfurries on Youtube.
Go see!
I can't publish this for a while because the flat is still without electricity. The main meter fuse was replaced on Friday but this caused the fusebox to spark and smoke. It needed to be replaced and hopefully come monday morning it will be. But we cannot do anything. There is no leccy and no hot water. There is no telly, no lights, no washing machine and no fucking internet. I am really, bloody fed up.
Today I went to the White Cube to see If Hitler Were a Hippy How Happy We Would Be, with the new improved version of Hell (called Fucking Hell) and the Hitler paintings a la Jake and Dinos Chapman. It was just brilliant to finally see some of their work in the flesh, and also really, really disturbing. I was affected more by the paintings and their 'enhancements' than by Fucking Hell.
It's now Wednesday. the leccy is back on, well mostly on anyway. we have hot water, telly, internet... no cooker though.
So, Chapman brothers...well I loved Fucking Hell. It was funny rather than barbaric, my favourite bits included the Greek Temple that was a MacDonalds, Hitler painting a child-like picture of a house whilst he surveyed the landscape of death below him and a tortoise with a swastika painted on the side that pulled a train whilst a stormtrooper dangled a lettuce in front of it on a stick. Nice touch. I felt uncomfortable about the house with another Hitler sat at a sewing machine piecing together some flesh with some deformed figure stood in front of him, all the while a young mother and child were sat up in the attic above. Particularly poignant were the rocking horse, teddies and other child's toys scattered around.
The Hitler paintings were something else. His work was ordinary; amateurish, hobbyist and rather dark. Theirs was similar but vibrant rainbows jumped out of the pieces with hearts and stars decorating the paper. I can't pin it down exactly to what it was that irked me so, but it wasn't what they had done. They weren't saying "We can gloss over what type of monster he was by cheering these pictures up" more like "the pictures can be cheered up but what he did can never be or should ever be" almost like the distinction between what he did and what they did is just so enormous. Brrr. it wasn't a nice feeling, very sinister and provocative.
Sleep soon. More later.
