Coffee Republic, Beckenham

The cellar flooded overnight and the main meter fuse blew.  I am here/there <points towards blog entry title>.  The place is full of new mothers and their buggies. They are playing a cover version of 'Everything I Do (I do it for you)' by some warbling country-esque female singer.  All I can think of is the lyrics to Gun by Gus Gus, such is my desperation:

"Take that gun
blow your mind
take that gun
go ahead and make my day"

Argh!

and have been for a couple of hours. I get to a certain point in the early morning when it starts getting light, the birds start tweeting and that's it: up I must get.

This morning I've been sat watching the trees in the garden swaying gracefully in the wind, listening to the rainfall and wishing I could just clear my head and sleep.

The hardest question in the world to answer:

What do you want...

...apart from hair-free legs, you, and a big lottery win?

Why did I have to cry like a girl when I was asked though?

That is all.

I bought the black non-fussy dress. Have a look at my flickr pics or Facebook.

So Rich, when are you taking some photos of me? :) I mean clean ones...

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.

Why don't you fuck off?

Working. On a Sunday.

<sob>

I'm in Winnersh Triangle. On a Sunday. I was here yesterday too. I'm screaming inside.

The only thing keeping me going is the thought of the time and a half pay from yesterday and today and the lovely Annora dress from Coast that I am going to buy with it.

Asking for it?

It's dramatic, I know. But I am being accurate when I say I was assaulted on Friday.

So, to the man who followed me around in Debenhams on Oxford Street, then walked into me once and then came back to grab my thighs and arse and then asked me if I was wearing suspenders, well... if you'd asked me politely I might have told you. But just because I'm wearing seamed stockings does not give you the fucking right to touch me and leave me so flabbergasted I didn't tell you to fuck right off.

I needed to buy a dress for last sunday (will talk about the event at more length later). I failed miserably. I had a crisis of confidence and my inspiration evaporated. I needed a dress that said "I'm a virgin". All I could find were ones that screamed "Fuck me hard. Now!" Pah.

I'm seeing someone spend 48 hours on writing a perl script to do some text manipulation that he could have used Word's search and replace for, and then talks on and on about curing cancer and that's his priority. Argh!

Now I am dealing with a *lot* of heavy shit. I feel like I'm lost in a maze. There's too much going on right now.

there's nothing like a skinful to get them flowing. I feel like I want to write and write, if only I could spell right first time. You'll never guess how long it has taken me to write that last sentence. Oh the joys of booze.

:)

Anyway. I'm feeling really happy and bouncy. if only the cat was content just to lie on my calves happily without the need to dig the claws in every time I bounced or moved due to the music I was listening to (see previous entry). Really feel open and invincible to dish the dirt in absolutely everything I was feeling and experiencing these last few months but there's still enough sense in this booze riddled body to hold back.

This means more to me than you'll ever know

when you begin a relationship with someone you get bombarded with so many new things; from books to music, cinema to cuisine, most good, some bad. It's nice to get introduced to new experiences, but after a while you yearn to go back to the way things were and start to experience things for yourself (again). I have Ian to thank for my love of Tim Buckley (and therefore Jeff) and Love, and Rich for Kroke, DJ Shadow, and Martin Herbert.

I'm nearly 40. My love of dance and pop music isn't going anywhere and I don't care who knows it. I don't think I'd be happier if all I had to listen to was radio 1 for the rest of my life. I'm rediscovering what gets me hot in music circles, having been inspired by the old git* at work who listens to Kiss FM whenever possible. I've downloaded the following today:

The Hoosiers - Goodbye Mr A (It's ELO-tastic)

The Ting Tings - Great DJ

Sam Sparro - Black and Gold

Estelle & Kanye - American Boy (but it was a close call between this and Somerset Boy)

Pendulum - Propane Nightmares, Blood Sugar, Hold Your Colour, Masochist (Moi? Shurely shome mishatake)

Pendulum supported DJ Shadow when Rich and I saw him earlier this year at the O2, but he wasn't keen and we only caught the end of the set, I wish now we'd got there earlier.

* He's not. Far from it. He inspires me more than he realises.

caught up on some much needed sleep last night and woke to find Boris confirmed as Mayor. Oh well. :-/ I was disappointed and a little surprised in the local council elections because more people voted BNP than Green. I can appreciate that many people find immigration a hot topic but voting BNP? Are they really the answer to the immigration issue? Come to think of it, is there really an immigration issue?

Well the weather has been great today, so after an expensive and hard to find brunch in town (god I hate Beckenham with a huge passion) I bought a cheap bottle of red and have sat in the garden with a large glass of it and am topping both it and my tan up. I mean my vitamin D levels. Ahem. Anyway I have no tan to top up and my face is plastered with factor 15 as I'm not supposed to be tanned whilst getting lasered. I'm still in the garden (gotta love wireless) relaxing and taking the odd photo with the camera. The mint, coriander and strawberry plants are coming along but the toms are taking their time, I might see if I can pick up some plants from somewhere as these seedlings just don't want to grow. Photos I've taken will be up on Flickr later, I'm still hoping to find someone to take some pics of me and my new look. Hint hint!

I'm looking forward to the long weekend, then on Tuesday I am in Cambridge (hurrah!) and I have Thursday and Friday off. Haircut on Thursday and shopping for a dress on Friday. Next Sunday I attend my first Lincoln's Inn event, but it's Sunday lunch so I'm hoping it's fairly informal. I hope I don't make an arse of myself.

I bought some shoes yesterday, much as I'd love to own these or these, I really can't afford them. They are not comparable and I feel quite embarrassed to own up to buying New Look shoes, but honey, it's about how you wear it, not what you wear (says the incredibly poor breadwinner trying to convince herself). I'm sure I'll get some second glances and comments when I turn up at the building on Tuesday in a wiggle skirt, seamed stockings and the shoes. Some of them even complimentary!

Talking of second glances, on the way home yesterday I was leered at by some city boys who were getting pissed outside a pub in Covent Garden who then turned a tad vitriolic when they realised I had big holes in my ears. Fuck You, you tiny-penised no-hopers. And thank you to the man who picked up my detachable suspender from the platform at Clock House when it inappropriately de-attached itself from both my girdle and my stocking after I got off the train. Oh the shame. :)

Sitting in the garden on one's own is nice but I do wish I was with a large group of friends catching up on gossip and listening to hustle and bustle or the sea instead of electric lawnmowers and suburbian nothingness. Sigh. Anyway, cheers to a long weekend and a lovely break for all of you!

Clanky's stocking watch - Issue 1

I'm wearing them every day (it's lovely) and have been for years and thought as there' s not much info out there about them I thought I'd just post up my findings so far.

It should be easy to buy stockings. Tights are just horrible. I mean, just....horrible. Why any woman would do that to themselves is beyond me. I've been looking in shops recently and it's all tights, tight, more tights and hold ups. Ugh. You need a decent suspender belt. Get one from What Katie Did or Nylon Dreams. If you want to wear seams get a 6 strap belt at least. You do not want to spend ages getting the seams straight and then find it's all gone tits up half an hour later. Anyway. Back to stockings. You get either stretch or non stretch. You have to take into account your leg length and thigh size, and whether you want to wear your stockings at the upper end of your leg or mid-thigh. Oh, and buy some thin cotton or satin gloves to wear when putting on your stockings. Even the slightest bit of rough skin or dodgy fingernail can snag your lovely hosiery.

Day to day wear you do not want to buy something that is going to ladder easily. Brands that seem to be hard wearing are:

John Lewis 3 pairs for 3 quid. In two sizes and three (I think) shades.

Marks and Spencers ladder resist, three sizes and two shades

I prefer the JL ones, although MS really are ladder resist, the black shade is really harsh and they feel (and look) bloody horrible.

Seams come in faux or true fully fashioned. I have worn:

Pretty Polly Vintage (cheap, nice to wear 'seams' even though they are fake, and very subtle so it's nice to know you're wearing seams even though people don't realise, but if you want the world to know you're wearing seams don't bother)

Jonathan Aston (the contrast champagne/black are ok, but the colour is too pale for me, but have recently got some natural/natural ones which look fab and I can't wait to wear them)

What Katie Did (contrast grey/black and contrast pink/black - please can I go out somewhere nice so I can wear these buggers!)

Gerbe Carnation (the Rolls Royce of fully fashioned stockings - ladder too easily but worth the 20 quid just for the constant slinky feeling)

One place I intend to buy from and haven't yet is Christel as they do Manhattan heels. Lovely. Expensive yes, but good for a treat every now and then.

I have chubby thighs and I've only really had problems with Agent Provocateur stockings, the welt (bit at the top) really had no stretch and they just didn't fit. Avoid if you're a bit lardy like me.

I love the whole rigmarole of stockings and suspenders. Yes it's a faff. But I remember the look of delight on his face when he got me down to my underwear all that time ago like it was yesterday and the faff was certainly worth it! He or she will appreciate it, believe me.
